My name is Luke and I have an absolute passion for cars. I myself have been surrounded by the car scene for as long as I can remember. I started Tach Talk because I love talking about cars and want to share my thoughts.
The automotive scene has molded me into the person I am today. Doing mundane tasks such as running errands is never boring, due to always car spotting. Growing up in Wisconsin our car season is a short couple of months. We take advantage of every presented opportunity for a get together or cruise. For the other 9 months of the year, the salt laden roads are filled with lifeless crossovers and winter beaters. During those long winters, I learn to appreciate more cars. I would appreciate seeing an X5M or a nice 4runner. Every car has character, it just depends how much.
I was forever thankful that my high school had a very strong car community. When it was time for me to buy a first car, I wanted something that I could fit into a group. There were many options at my school. The Honda crowd, the truck crowd, the subie boys etcetera, etcetera. I ended up narrowing it down to two groups. The American muscle crowd or the eurotrash club. I loved the vibe from both. In the end I made the decision solely based on what car I could afford at the time. Being a broke high schooler, my budget was determined on how much money I saved from my summer lifeguarding gig. I could either get a C4 corvette or a MK4 VW. I ultimately went with the GTI. The car was far from perfect. Hail damage peppered the roof and hood. The 4-Speed automatic was anything but desirable. But, still loved it because it was mine. That car only lasted a year until I sold it for another MK4. The GTI this time had the 2.8 VR6 and a 5-Speed Manual. Wow that car was fun. That cars future was short lived too. Once in college, I had to sell it and buy something more economical. The premium gas and constant repairs were not feasible for a full time student. My ride became a grey Chevy Equinox. I was now the humdrum crossover driver, the one thing I swore I wouldn’t become. With graduation right around the corner, I know I will be back in something stimulating in no time.
The car community has opened so many avenues for me. From finding lifelong friends to the unending search for new knowledge about automobiles. I try to learn as much as I can about everything. I love every class of car. From 8 second quarter mile behemoths to futuristic electric endeavors. Stretching to great off-road overlanding rigs to cars so slammed every speedbump could be its demise. The diversity of the car community is why it is so appealing to me. There is a group and subculture for everyone. Whatever you are into, there is a group of people willing to help and share your passion. While rolling around in my Equinox, I grow to appreciate every group. I will try to never back myself into one single club. Appreciating every community has humbled me in more ways than just cars.
